What Is Foosball?
Foosball is also known as table football (or table soccer in America), and it's a fantastic game of skill that dates back to 1921, when it was first invented by Harold Thornton. A foosball table looks like a small soccer field, with the players attached to rods. Players can rotate those rods using handles that protrude from the side of the table, making their soccer players "kick" the ball. Other than that, the rules are much like actual soccer - players try to kick the ball into the opponents goal to get a point.
Foosball Competitions
There are a number of different organizations in the US and in other countries that govern official foosball competitions, with very specific documented rules that players must abide by. There are reports of competitions dating all the way back to the 40's, but it wasn't until much later that they truly became serious. In the mid 70's, a man name Lee Peppard started a "Quarter Million Dollar Tour". This brought competitive foosball to a whole new level. Since that tournament, several different promoters have help high dollar foosball tournaments all around the world on a regular basis.

Don't get intimidated by the crazy competitions - first and foremost... foosball is FUN!
